Don’t take this the wrong way, I love backpacking but I guess there are a few things that get irritating. Thought you guys might be interested:
Urggh, this gets to me so much. Where have you been? Where are you going? How old are you? What do you do back home? All questions I have answered more times than I want to remember. Especially, being on your own you spend more time with strangers and you seem to have the same conversation over and over again with new people. Sometimes I like to mix it up a bit ask Where is the best place you have been or Whats your favourite movie etc.
Sure I love having a good evening, but after 2 months being asked every night the last thing you want to see is a bottle of beer. Sometimes I just wish people would like to do something else such as playing football on the beach etc.
Sometimes you get on really well with people, and it’s the worst thing in the world to realise that there already leaving the next day or in an hour.
It’s true, no one will believe me.
You get those type of people who think the best way to make friends is to go and buy some weed and offer it to people, especially in a country where you get the death penalty for dealing in drugs. What happens is that everyone just rejects them and wants nothing to do with them. When I get asked I just look at them with a blank face and don’t say anything. They usually get the message and I find it rather entertaining.
Of course most backpackers are on a budget like me, however, there is no point in travelling if all you can afford to do is sit in your dorm room. Many times I’ve asked people if they want to join me for an attraction or something, even if it’s £3, they will say there budget wouldn’t cover it. You can’t go to Beijing without seeing the Great Wall!
So many hostels have such bad showers, it’s hard work to get clean. The water just drips out! I think that has something to do with the countries I’ve visited and not the hostels in general. Also a lot of the time the water isn’t warm. The shower is either freezing cold or ridiculously hot that you can’t stand under it. Cold showers are no fun anymore!
Dorm rooms are just amazing. I love everything about them. The few nights I had to stay in a single room felt really strange. However, I seem to sleep through everything now. Lights on, music blaring and people screaming is not enough to keep me awake anymore, however, this presents a problem when I want my alarm to wake me up.
Is it to much to ask to not let your child wee on my shoe?!
It comes with the terratory. If your pale white, people will notice and stare at you. It gets annoying after a while. Not going to lie.
